August Birthdays- Linda, Jennnifer, Carolyn G, Becky and Annie

August 12th, 2008

Hi Mint Julep Queens.  What a hot long summer we are having.  We have several queens that have August birthdays.  Linda celebrates on August 2, Carolyn G on August 4, Jennifer August 6,Becky C. August 7 and Annie August 13.  Whooo-weee.

I think we are due to a little get together. I heard also that Elizabeth’s on 37th was voted by GQ to have one of the best cocktails in the country. A mint julep.  The magazine selects only 20 of the best from around the United States and Elizabeth’s was in the top.  I think I need to go try try it.

PS- I forgot to down load MJQs pictures. I will add images later:)

Ya’ll , I am letting you know now.  Carolyn’s birthday is July 6.  Drop her a note or bottle of wine.  Dee has a royal birthday on the 12th of July.  Ditto on the note or drink.  By the way, I just love the photo of Patty and Dee.  We have been needing a Fab image of Dee and now we have several.  Yeah!

Shame, Shame, Shame on me!  It was June 13th and now she is off to the UK presumably to see the Queen and celebrate.  Dottie, give her a hug for me:) and tell her William is just darling and should marry that Kate girl.

Princess Kayle Crowned on May 17th

We had quite a Flounce on May 17th.  Please forgive my tardiness in even mentioning it.  My Common life is keeping me tooo busy for Royal matters.  (Horrors!) One very special event I must mention.  We crowned a charming little princess right after her equally sweet grandmother crossed the street in to our midst on Broughton Street.  Queen Dottie provided the lucky tiara.  For those that don’t remember, every time we appear in our Regalia we must crown a little princess for good luck.  Also it acknowledges that all females are Royalty from even a very young age and if treated as such,  properly encouraged (and so forth), they will rule their realm, as queen with grace and good-natured spirit in years to come.  I have no doubt that little Kayle will grown up to be a fabulous sovereign in her our right.  Thanks to her grand-mother,  Sandy for stopping to visit with us and let Kaylee be coroanted.  Reign On, Sandy and Kayle and when I find the image of the event I will send it on and post it.  (Goodness! I need a personal assistant to handle things that fall thought the Royal cracks.)

Inspired Mint Julep

May 14th, 2008

 picture-415.jpg  (click-Happiness is a Julep)

I just finished the most inspired article about the classic Mint Julep in this month’s Garden & Gun :21st Century Southern America magazine.  Written by Jonathon Miles in “A Drink for All Seasons,” the iconic drink is described as a “a splendid, simple drink.”  Ya’ll it does not require a special occasion to enjoy it Jonathon reminds me!  And honey, it does not require a silver cup or fine veranda, since this can be a tad intimidating.  (Personally, I like serving it in a silver cup if it goes with my flouncing outfit and when I am in lime green toile with pageant banner sash, I truly believe it adds so much to the look.)  I can promise you however that I have collapsed on my couch after a hot summer day, in plain ol’ jeans and a T-shirt to enjoy ”the ideal analgesic to a tough day at work.”  For this Saturday’s Flounce at Alligator Soul, I plan to bring my own little linen cocktail napkin, (’cause it is cute), my own silver plated Patrick Henry Mint Julep cup, and even a big bunch of fresh mint, grown right here in Savannah, just in case they need some.

Thank you, Jonathon Miles for the inspiration. Oh, and if your consort likes to hunt and all that, you might enjoy the new publication Garden & Gun, www.gardenandgun.com since there is something in it for him, and more importantly lots of interesting ariticles for you.  http://gardenandgun.com/stories/below_the_line/below_the_line-90  Click to read Jonathon’s Mint Julep article:)

Mint Julep Queens, Mint Juleps, and Google

April 21st, 2008

mjqs-and-dinner-at-alligator-soul08.jpg(click) Some us photographed with some lucky commoner.

Here is an interesting list: Queen Helene Masque & Facial Scrub, the Modern Jazz Quartet, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh at the Derby and of course, the MJQs.   What do we all have in common.  We are on page one of a Google search.  If you enter “MJQ” “Mint Julep” Or Mint Julep Queens”  we share space on page one with these other topics.  Including a guy on chowhound hot topics who needed crushed ice in Brooklyn. This is the story about him.  He was planning a little party for +200 and needed the correct ingredients for a proper julep and he knew the ice must be crushed.    As he explained, he lived in Queens and didn’t know the Brooklyn area. So where do you go? You Google it.

Also Queen Elizabeth was to have a Mint Julep last year at the Kentucky Derby. Addtionally you can find out that Queen Helene makes a great clay based face masque that really clears up those clogged pores.  The Modern Jazz Quartet appears if you search “MJQ.” They have no interest in Mint Juleps. And, as of this morning, the “Mint Julep Queens Green toenails” were in the forefront. Now does this matter in vast scheme of cyber-things?  No. Not at all, but is is rather amazing to think that if a wonderful subject sees us Flounce one Saturday night through downtown town Savannah, asks for a photograph, and then goes back to Pittsburgh and Googles the MJQs…well, Voila`. There we are. Page one. Praise worthy, photogenic and completely Royal in almost every way.

Great Service at Alligator Soul

April 15th, 2008

carolyn-stillwell-2008.jpgmjqs-and-dinner-at-alligator-soul08.jpg(click) Danny Boy aka Daniel, a staff consort pours for Carolyn and Diner requests a photo-op with us.

Saturday night we showed up at Alligator Soul, www.alligatorsoul.com  about an hour later than we had planned, but we were greeted with applause and hugs from the staff anyway. The owner, Maureen Craig even wore her special sweater that had little green gators on it.

We wanted something light and easy to eat since you really don’t need to eat a full dinner when wearing a glittering, form-fitting green gown.  The chef made us special nibbles that we didn’t need knife and fork to noosh on.  My favorite was the jumbo fried olives.  Also you cannot go wrong with grilled bread brushed with virgin olive oil and served with a wonderful variety of cheeses.  Drinks were perfect and fairly priced. The atmosphere warm and welcoming and staff good-natured and properly impressed with our Royal selves. Several guests had pictures made with us and enjoyed our very attendance.  I am guessing their evening was complete after good food, good wine, and then meeting some of the MJQs. It is possible, right?
